Grades 1-2: The Firefly Reading Series

Following The Sounds of English, learners are guided into the application of newly acquired sound skills to attach those sounds to the Roman alphabet assisted by another metaphorical guide, Firefly, who joins Chubbs the Bulldog in the journey of understanding English stories.

The Firefly Reading Series includes six books that introduce all of the 43 sound of English and the 250 most common English words in textbooks. Within these six books, learners travel from attaching to sounds to the ability to read approximately 100 words correct in less than one minute with 95% accuracy.

In the Firefly Reading Series first book, Firefly Takes Off, the standardization of English is cemented through high frequency words (words that are frequently found in English books), more sound and letter practice, and introduction of how to string English sounds together (using sound cards) to build English words that in combination with the high frequency words make the learner a reader.

In the following five books, Firefly incrementally reveals and rolls out the sounds, high frequency words, affixes, story grammar, and English syntactical patterns. The learner is now to prepared to read, write and speak English narratives (beginning, middle and end). The reading programs help build the comprehension, vocabulary, cognitive and affective filters to process English thoughts and ideas.

Grades 3-5: The Dream Cap Series

In the Dream Cap Reading Series, learners use their knowledge of print to build cognitive and effective patterns for English interaction. This series of readers opens up a window on an American neighborhood and children so the learners can see how English is used to problem solve, learn new strategies, and gain a broader understanding of the American culture.

Four characters, Shay, Olivia, Kordell and Madison, open up their neighborhood, homes, and lives to help the new English speaker gain insight into how the American family thinks and interacts, as well as how children their age can make moral decisions and build good character.

Reading is the key to learning vocabulary. English has 88,600 word families. This makes learning words so important to full English fluency. The best way to learn those words Is through reading. The Dream Cap Reading Series makes it easy for students to start the journey of learning all these English labels.
